These drawings were from the first week of school to show our progress throughout the year. I drew a tree in a landscape, an animal, a street scene and a hand.

This was our introduction to prismacolors. We colored in cones and spheres to show the values with different colors and learn how to make the colors blend. We were also introduced to prismacolors by drawing different fruits and vegetables and this is my apple. I used different greens, blues and yellows to create the shadows on the apple.
These are the 5 drawings I made following the perspective videos. It was really hard for me to know what to follow along to because there were points when the video skipped ahead and suddenly had new pieces.
In progressFinished pieceCritique questions1. My drawing is clear. I have clean edges around each component of my piece and the values are blended well. I don't have smudges and I used the grid method to try and have a balanced composition. 2. My values and shadows are realistic. I tried to use the correct values and shadows that I saw in real life on the paper. I used 7 different pencils all at different values for this piece. I tried to do the best that I could to show the correct values of shading. Values are important because they make the lines on the page seem 3 dimensional instead of flat and boring. 3. There is not really a clear source of lighting. When I took pictures of the still life, there was light coming from a number of different sources because the lights on the ceiling were all pointing in different directions. I tried to show a light source as best as I could but there are more than one. 4. Th compositional sketches were very important to me because in the beginning, I had a really hard time trying to find a good positioning for my objects and trying to find a composition that was not too busy or too empty but right in the middle. 5. My final drawing was successful to me because I am very proud of what I've done. I think the details on the fur of the bear are really good and I am very proud of the shading on the shoelaces. 6. The proportions in my piece are mostly correct. I think I made the bear a little too small because the proportions changed from the size of my compositional sketch to the size of my final drawing paper. The structure and the perspective is correct. I worked very hard on trying to get the structure correct and I think I've gotten better at perspective since the contour room drawing assignment. 7. I think the placement does create a pleasing arrangement. I did 10 compositional sketches to try and get a good one and Ms. Rossi helped me find the right arrangement. 8. To me, the center of interest is the nike shoe. Some might not see it that way because of the way everything is positioned so that nothing seems directly in the middle. I would say my center of interest is not well located. 9. I managed my time and resources relatively well. I took my time but I also finished on the day that it was due. In using my resources, I used many different values of pencils and tried to do my best to create the correct shading with each of those values. I used a charcoal pencil and when using one of those, it is very important to use your resources well because too much charcoal could be a disaster. 10. Some challenges I encountered were trying to show the difference between middle shades. Going from a picture in color to a black and white drawing can be hard because it's hard to turn colors into values for me. I took my time and I tried to turn my photo into black and white on my phone so it was easier to see what colors I should use in my final product. 11. In drawing a still life, I've learned a lot about composition and how to position objects so your scene doesn't look too busy, I've learned about how to use the correct values and find a balance between dark and light values, and I learned about how to show different textures in drawing, for example fur and fabric. Compositional SketchesThese are the compositional sketches I did to try and find a good layout for my project. I had a hard time with these.
In this assignment, I learned how to draw fabric and show the values of the fabric. Using different mediums helped me learn how to show values with each different medium on each different color paper.
For this assignment, I used white prismacolor pencils and drew the values of a white ribbon on black paper. This assignment really helped me learn about values and how to show highlights.
In this assignment, I learned how to make forms look more realistic and 3 dimensional using highlights and shadows. This assignment helped me learn how to use values and how to shade correctly. Value ChartCreating a value chart helped me to see how I can show different shades with only one pencil.
These are my contour shoe drawings in order from first, second and third drawing. My third drawing looks only half finished but it only looks that way because I wasn't supposed to shade the squares on the shoe, so halfway through I realized I was not supposed to do that. These are my contour backpack drawings. I did these drawings in pen and tried drawing a backpack without picking up my pen.
This is my practice drawing for the classroom contour assignment. I messed up the proportions very bad as you can see with the table in the middle of the room. After I realized how bad I had messed up, I moved onto another practice drawing which ended up being my final product. This is my final drawing for the classroom contour assignment. I feel a lot more confident in this version than the first one. Critique questions1. I used a fluid line in my contour drawings. This is evident because all of my lines are connected to one another. There is no break in the line and no beginning or end.
2. My knowledge and practice with contour drawings helped me to be successful because it taught me how to show what I saw in front of me while keeping my pen on the paper. Contour drawings helped me learn how to draw because it showed me how things are connected. 3. The difference in a contour drawing and an outline drawing are that in a contour drawing, everything is connected and it helps show the details connected to the background. In an outline drawing, things aren't all connected and the details don't connect to the background as well because they stand out more. 4. My interpretation of the line is important in showing the look of the room because it shows the details are connected to the entire room. My line is made of mostly straight lines because I see the shapes better in straight lines. 5. This drawing helped me learn how to draw the things I see in front of me. It helped me see the angles of the room and how everything ties together. If I could recreate this piece, I would work on my angles a little bit better. I didn't do the best job of making every object look like it was from the same direction but I am still proud of my work. For this assignment, I used what I learned in the blind contour hand drawing assignment and tried doing a contour drawing of my hand while I was looking at the paper and my hand next to it.
